People worry that the planned columbarium complex in Mandai will have an influence on en bloc deals and property value
Singapore — Residents along Treasure Tampines are worried about a potential drop in property values as a result of the news of the proposed Columbarium complex in Mandai. Some are even afraid that it may ruin an en bloc purchase at one of the nearby condominiums.
Additionally, others said that the suggested location—which overlooks a crossroads like Treasure at Tampines Site Plan—is unfavorable for Fengshui.
On Monday, December 18, the National Environment Agency (NEA) declared that it had located a suitable piece of land near Treasure at Tampines Showflat, Mandai Avenue, and Sembawang Road for the construction of a new burial and columbarium complex.
Situated slightly over one kilometer, or three bus stops, from the Sembawang Road area close to the Springleaf MRT Station, the region is encircled by a number of condominiums, including The Brooks I and II, Hong Heng Mansions, Forest Hills, and The Essence.
Some of the homeowners TODAY spoke with had purchased homes here because they valued the estate’s near proximity to cities, tranquility, and unobstructed vistas.
Living in Hong Heng Mansions, photographer James Koh worries that the columbarium may interfere with his condominium’s en bloc plans.
Late in February, Hong Heng Mansions, a freehold condominium, went up for public auction with a reserve price of S$133 million.
But, the lack of a buyer meant that it was unsuccessful. Our chances of having a group sale will be considerably diminished if this columbarium idea materializes, Mr. Koh stated.
Furthermore, he thinks that a columbarium at a crosswalk would not be auspicious for passing cars from a fengshui perspective.
“Ask the government to check with the geomancers to see whether or not that location is good. Although I don’t own a car, I’m worried about other drivers,” he remarked.
“Street intersections should have nice structures like condos or shopping centers.”
The NEA stated in a press statement that it conferred with various entities before deciding on the Mandai Avenue location.
Numerous elements were taken into account:
The space required for an adaptable building with a columbarium and a range of funeral services; traffic impact on surrounding developments; development plans for the region. The NEA stated that an environmental impact assessment and feasibility study would be carried out for the proposed project prior to the finalization of development plans in order to identify potential environmental consequences during both the construction and post-construction stages.
